Highway Safety and Protection of Infrastructure Test Centre
Our external crash site is 30,000m2 in size with scope for extensive civil engineering installations.
This site gives us the ability to perform high energy impacts or tests that cannot be carried out within an enclosed crash laboratory environment
It has a totally flexible towing and guidance system, allowing all test configurations and angles to be achieved for all types of passenger and commercial vehicles up to 70 tonnes.
Highway Safety and Protection of Infrastructure Test Centre
We conduct roll-over test configurations to both FMVSS 208 and the corkscrew requirement, as well as vehicle-to-vehicle impacts. The site is typically used for testing vehicle roadside restraints (EN1317), passive roadside furniture (EN12767) and security products to protect from vehicle-borne threats (IWA14-1, PAS 68, ASTM F2656).
Our dedicated engineering team, who contribute to the development of the very latest standards, are on hand to provide a full range of supporting services from product design advice, protocol and standards interpretation to the management of any civil installation and vehicle procurement.
The crash site also benefits from housing an extensive range of permanent product installation sockets and anchors.
The site uses state-of-the-art off-board and onboard high-speed camera technology and instrumentation controlled by Wi-Fi to minimise risk to personnel. It also benefits from a dedicated customer office and several additional supporting facilities including fabrication workshops and an electrical and electronics department.
All testing can be supported by the use of HORIBA MIRA’s computer-simulated vehicle models during the product development phase. These models are unique to HORIBA MIRA and are validated to the latest test standards.
